ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Imán Zanele Omar is an aspiring journalist and writer, born and bred in Cape Town, South Africa. She identifies as an activist, advocate, feminist, environmentalist, and humanist. Imán obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree Majoring in Media & Communication Studies with a Minor concentration in Gender and Women’s Studies from Saint Mary’s College of Notre Dame in the United States. 


During her time at University, she acquired a range of skills through working and being involved in various intermediate positions in this field including insight into the importance of adhering to strict deadlines and carefully maintaining and managing contacts across a range of institutions and organizations. Imán’s passions involve writing poetry, fiction, and reporting human interest stories through storytelling journalism.


Imán's academic background has heightened her awareness of the importance and value of thorough research and a constant open and inquisitive approach and disposition to people and issues. It has also afforded her the opportunity to travel extensively and gain unique and precious exposure to different modes of living and thinking, to alternative media processes and newsrooms, as well as a deeper appreciation of the many wonderful and often neglected features of South Africa and its people.


Imán thoroughly enjoys traveling and learning about new cultures and traditions. She is an avid runner and sports fan. In her spare time, you may find her indulged in a novel, adventuring the outdoors, or entertaining her eight nephews and nieces.
