The "mother of African women's theology," Mercy Amba Oduyoye, served as the honorary speaker of the 33rd annual Madeleva Lecture in the Carroll Auditorium at Saint Mary's on Thursday evening.

Saint Mary's will present "Extraordinary Women," a musical revue to launch the College's new minor in musical theater, this weekend at Haggar Parlor. The interactive revue will include songs from some of the best Broadway shows including "Oklahoma!," "Wicked," "The Sound of Music" and "My Fair Lady."

On March 8, three Saint Mary's seniors spoke on a panel entitled "Black Women's Activist: Living and Learning from Audre Lorde" panel at the Niles Public Library in Michigan. The panel, which featured seniors Taylor Thomas, Nina Steele and Alexandria Shambery, was organized in honor of Women's History Month.

Kevin Callaghan, a bronze medalist in the 5,000-meter race at the 2011 Special Olympics, spoke at Saint Mary's on Wednesday evening regarding his experiences as an athlete. The event, sponsored by Multicultural Services, served as part of the College's Disability Awareness Week.

Saint Mary's hosted its annual International Cultural Festival on Thursday evening, celebrating diversity and inclusion of all the cultures and traditions that are represented at the College. Students and professors alike shared music, dance, poetry and artifacts from their home countries.

After roughly two years of renovations on the Angela Health and Wellness Center, the field house portion of the building is open for use. Director of athletics Julie Schroeder-Biek said in an email that the new athletic facility will be a hub for campus community.

The tri-campus sustainability class seeks to place stewardship of the Earth at the center of faith practice. The course, offered each fall semester, integrates Catholic teachings into environmental studies to reflect on issues of sustainability.

On Tuesday, Saint Mary's hosted "DACA, Then and Now," a teach-in event on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program's past, present and future. The purpose of the event was to inform community members about the DACA program, how it started, what it involves and what can be expected in the future.

For the eighth year, the College will host an Academic Skills and Strategies Workshop series, which aims to teach students effective study techniques and methods. Senior Fiona Van Antwerp said she implemented many of the strategies she learned through the Academic Skills and Strategies program.
